This is the true story of Bas and his family, whose struggle continues every day. Together with 100 more miners, he extracts sulphur from the highly toxic crater of mount Ijen in Indonesia.
Two times a day, the ‘Porters of Kawah Ijen’ carry loads weighting up to 95kg each up to the rim of the volcano and down the mountain, all without the use of any modern tools or equipment. All for less than 10 dollars a day. With a reduced life expectancy and deteriorating health, Bas sacrifices himself to sustain his family and give his children a future.
Novo Amor & Ed Tullett give a percentage of proceeds from this track to help porters like Bas and their families. If you would like more information, please visit www.ijenassistance.com, a website run by the filmmakers.
