It may be summer but with autumn right round the corner high street designers are letting loose the newest fashion trend. The transparent rain coat is a new way to stay dry when it’s pouring whilst still showing off that outfit you spent hours putting together.

Now I’m not talking about those flimsy bin liners you see London cyclists wearing, this is a strong fashion statement for men, women and children and it’s beginning to appear on all the designer catwalks. It’s the urban fashionista’s secret ingredient to a glamorous yet rainy day and a must have for us aspiring ‘fashion savvies’.

Despite this trend emerging around SS13 last year, the trend has been more prominent this year throughout spring and people in the fashion industry are confident it will stay prominent throughout autumn as well.

The claimed mastermind behind this genius idea is Marie Saeki, CEO of designer rain wear collection: Terra New York. Since then this item has been appearing in various cuts, transparent materials and colours throughout the high street such as Topshop, Forever 21, Selfridges and Burberry.

Fashion columnists are saying that it’s one of those few trends, which have made its way into designer and high street fashion this year. It’s perfect for all ages as well as all outfits due to its transparent quality.

Often made of light weight material such as polyethylene means that these trendy jackets are easy to travel with when you’re on the go. With designers adding bold outlines, dart lines and pockets, there’s no way this glamorous item will be mistaken for a pathetic plastic poncho.

It’s no wonder people of all ages are scouting the streets for this clever little piece of apparel and duly calling it their wardrobe saviour.
